The scene is the Bowery at the corner of Bleecker Street in New York City. One of the things that makes it an interesting location is that because it’s at a “T” intersection, so you can see the buildings from a distance, not just from across the street. I liked the contrast of the warm colors against the deep blue November afternoon sky. I also liked how the white, red, green and orange shapes seemed to play off one another, punctuated by windows of various shapes and sizes. The shadows of the fire escapes add some depth to a fairly shallow space. A woman in a red sweatshirt runs from the crosswalk toward an onlooker. On the right is the former location of CBGB, which closed in 2006.

Award winning realist painter Nick Savides learned to paint from his mother at 3 years old and never stopped. Inspired by the works of Edward Hopper, the quiet energy within his art captures both a palpable sensation of light and of place. Mr. Savides has been published twice by Nabi Press, featuring urban images of New York City and Paris, as well as landscapes of upstate New York. www.nicksavides.com facebook.com/nicksavidesart
