About The Artwork
It’s the season of long, very saturated shadows in the desert Southwest. I tend to paint what I see and feel - so dark, barren landscapes with refracted light are characterized in this painting. The American abstract expressionists who painted last century inspire my work, especially Franz Kline, Mark Rothko, and Robert Motherwell. I am really attempting to take Helen Frankenthaller’s advice when she said most artists tend to overpaint (paraphrased). She advised artists to simplify.
