Collective memories was created as part of Melting pot traveling exhibition. "Melting Pot "; is an India to Europe exhibition tour of paintings by four women artists of different nationalities all working in India. The project was initiated by me and Barbara Ash from the U.K. In 2015 we had the idea to form a working artist collective, and use our "international links", by connecting artists and shows in India, where we currently work, with our home countries. The artists all responded to the "Melting Pot" theme from their own particular personal histories and approaches, and subsequently the body of work explores a range of issues, including female identity, national identity, cultural dynamics, ideas of "belonging", and the concept of "home" In Collective Memories I am reflecting on a common cultural heritage which can in a way connect us all, looking on a basic human values that we all share. In the series Melting pot I have used outline of the image of my figure as a child, repeatedly creating a motif out of it. In this work use of golden is predominant as auspicious color in Indian tradition, since I currently live in India as well as commonly used color for the saints imagery in my home country Serbia. Figure is filled in with blue weaves of the all connecting water, the integral part of every human being and carrier of the universal energy. Finally the faceless child is holding the dragonfly representing the inner change (metamorphosis) our processes and contemplation that each of us go through on the road of life.

Serbia
Katarina Rasic (27.11.1987) is an artist from Belgrade, Serbia, working and living in Mumbai, India. Through travelling and experiencing new places, her art is constantly changing and developing new levels, exploring different ways of expression, through painting, installation and performance work. She graduated with a Masters in painting at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Belgrade, Serbia. Katarina is a member of the Association of Fine Artists of Serbia. Rasic writes: “In my artistic practice I have been exploring the ideas of belonging, tradition, female identity. Concept of “home” and national identity is particularly interesting topic for me to explore. Hailing from a country with a turbulent history and living on a different continent (India) I can say that my cultural identity was formed as a blend of many different influences. I was born in the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia which fell apart in 1992 and the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia was formed, in 2003 it became Serbia and Montenegro, and in 2006 just Serbia, so without changing my location I lived in 4 countries. Therefore, I never formed a strong national identity rather I see myself as a melting pot of different cultures, costumes and ways of thinking and understanding, blending together in one personality. In my artwork, I am trying to explore myself as a person, as an artist, as a performance artist, and as a woman. As a visual artist and a performance artist, I am trying to intermingle these two mediums, using my body to express concepts and then using canvas to bring out what has changed in me with the performance.”
