Hartmut Schirrmacher aka Merlin Flu was born in Binzen/Lrrach,Baden-Wrttemberg in 1948. Growing up in an orphanage, he started drawing and writing poetry at an early age already.The artist broke off his studies at the branch of the Dsseldorf Academy of Art in Mnster:"There was something inside of me which resisted the mere and more often than not monotonous reproduction of technical skills". Numerous individual and group exhibitions on national and internationalground followed. Without sketches, topic or concept, he draws and composes fromwithin. "Intuition, spontaneity, a high degree of colour intensity and vivacious imagination mark his oeuvres. At times absurd female nudes with a distinctive sensuality, creatures,half man, half fabulous animal, faces over and over again, yet also visions of the last days of the world captivate onlookers tointensive observation. The artist has been working and living in Dsseldorf for thirty years. In 1990,he was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. Since then,he expresses his style in large-sized acrylic graphics andbold colours. His profile of work was expanded by steel objects, smallsculptures and mystical lyricism.
