About The Artwork

Details of the creation of the work. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d0MFbIrIJ6E&feature=youtu.be The works from the Repentanсe project were inspired by the traditional icon painting culture and reflect the concept of creating an icon-painting image, classical forms, proportions, and its context. Here, the relation to the icon as to the body is mapped into bodily plastic elements. I turn soft strips into hard pressed matter like a real tree. I return the paper to the primitive state, back to the tree and forward to the mystical Christian perception. The work is collected from book strips of different stages of natural oxidation. The book strips are mounted on a wooden surface and covered with a very strong lacquer. Yes, these are the last works that I made from old books. One might say that he did it with his last strength, under the weight of the aura of the unnecessary thoughts of Soviet graphomaniacs, did it in clouds of paper dust, crumbling from the oxidized pages. Both psychologically and physically it was no longer bearable, but fortunately, there were not so many issues to be resolved. The pleasure of experimenting with creating compositions from sheets of varying degrees of decay has dried up, and now I work only with fresh and new paper of different colors, and quite a bit with glossy magazines, which I do not disdain at all. The new quilling story is no longer about Orthodox icons (symbolic heads of dead people), but about life, about its triumph on completely different levels of being. This work is a provocation and rebellion against the Orthodox system of images. Destruction of books (sacred object of information transmission) and construction of wooden boards from it. Creation of a vagina image from typical plastic lines inside wood. The postmodern tone of the utterance builds up many questions from the viewer. Artworks were used as an artifact in performances and ceremonies. Artworks became participants of exhibitions: ICONS; 31 October 2017 — 31 November 2017; Dukley Art Center, Montenegro, Budva, Mediteranska ulica, Dukley Residences, 2 sprat; ICONS; 24 March — 24 May Vitomir Srblyanovich Gallery, Montenegro, Pljevlja; ICONS; 9 March 2017 — 30 March 2017 Voislav Bulatovich Strunjo Art Center, Montenegro, Bjelo Polje; ICONS; 30 October 2016 — 30 November 2016 Dukley Art Center, Kotor, Montenegro; Icon — Religion in Russian Contemporary; 04 June 2016 — 28 Augusto 2016 Ha Gamle Prestegard, Norway; Workshops from Jugooceanije; 29 March 2016 — 15 April 2016 Petrović Summer House, Montenegro, Podgorica; Recycling Religion; 13 December 2015 — 17 January 2016 White Box Gallery, USA, New-York; Recycling Religion; 01 December 2015 — 04 December 2015 Satellite Art Fair, Deauville Parking Garage, USA, Miami;
