About The Artwork
Sculptors make movement in the mind, where physically there is none. Outer Spiral is from the limited collection of Dan Haynie’s static triangular tube series. Visually cohesive, none are repeated in size, dimension, or construction. A simple yet strong visual symbol, spirals represent the vastness of galaxies in space, and nature’s smallest designs, as tiny shells wash up on the shore. A theme of mankind since prehistoric times, spirals are often found in cave drawings and ancient wall art. Broad at the base, Outer Spiral was drawn off center gradually by hand and looped downward, tapering to a point. Emphasizing Outer Spirals’ three dimensionality, every element of Dan Haynie’s sculptures come to life in his Lubbock metalwork studio.

I was born and raised in the panhandle of west Texas ( the Llano Estacado) where I now live. I started making welded metal sculpture after taking a welding course. Making sculpture was a hobby until I began to consign my work for sale in galleries in Santa Fe, New Mexico. I exhibit at SHIDONI Gallery outside Santa Fe, I have exhibited there for twenty years.
