one of the two elements
These are a pair of painted steel elements, each about 36" high x48"x48". They are inspired by the topography of Central New York and encourage the viewer to playfully engage with the work by sitting or lying on them. The arrangement is intentionally like a set of chairs so that the viewer feels at home in the landscape. They were originally made for a temporary installation at the Glimmerglass Summer Opera festival in Cooperstown, NY. Sold as a set only.

I am a New York Artist who does sculpture, works on paper and photographic work. My work focuses on specific forms that have strong symbolic meaning, either to me personally or to the culture at large. Through manipulation of context my work examines underlying contradictions that I find in these symbols, either via my personal experience or observations of the world around me. Often, the symbols from one distinct series merge with another in the way that the events of one's life seamlessly connect to one another. The landscape and rural culture of Upstate New York informs my work with a seductive melancholia. Underlying all of the work is an autobiographical search for personal meaning. Most recently I have been creating ephemeral interventions in the landscape and using photography to document the process. I use a broad range of processes and materials such as steel, wood, photography, cement, mold making and bronze. I let the ideas dictate the medium and maintain a broad working vocabulary so that the expression of my ideas is not limited by a narrow approach.
