Dillon is a lifesized fawn with taxidermy Egret feet for his antlers. He has glass eyes and is made out of high density foam and resin. His detailed features are sculpted with epoxy clay. He is part of the Under My Skin collection which talks about how we have an incredible ability to survive by adapting, mutating and adjusting to our current environment, much like nature does. And just like animals we develop new skills and evolve. It’s this environmental and emotional flexibility that gives humans and animals the opportunity to adjust to changes during our lifetimes. Under My Skin takes viewers on this journey using taxidermy where the animal forms act as metaphors and visceral interpretations. It’s about pain, denial, trust, love and happiness. Topics, I think, all humans can relate to at some point in their lives because we only ever see what’s on the outside, and this is a look at what’s underneath.

Karley Feaver (born 1978, New Plymouth) studied at Wellington School of Design (Industrial Design) and at Unitec (3D design). Karley Feaver’s art transports you into a world of exotic creatures filled with odd familiarities and strangeness. Using the animal form as a symbol of escape, freedom and migration, her works are not a creation of total imagination, but a projection of reality in an absurd form. Karley’s work challenges the common aversion towards taxidermy in the home by introducing abstract forms that blur the lines between traditional taxidermy and modern sculpture. The works intend to break morbid perceptions of taxidermy and replace them with more life-affirming connections. Karley works across a range of disciplines including painting, sculpture and taxidermy. Karley's works are held in the James Wallace Arts Trust collection, Westpac New Zealand's corporate collection and in private collections in the UK, USA, Australia, Russia, Switzerland and New Zealand. http://www.karleyfeaver.com/
