The sculpture represents layers of molten earth that have built up over eons, the once liquid form evident but now frozen. This larger sculpture is perfectly suited for indoors or outdoors, and has a pre-weathered finish that echoes the concepts of ageing and transformation of elements. Developing the sculpture I concentrated on the proccess of using repetitive form of material - curved steel bars, to generate concepts and capture the movement of elemental reactions. Different versions of the sculpture can be sized to fit any space. All Basilisk sculptures are based on the concept of petrified elements, but vary in material, form or finish to make them unique pieces.

Working predominantly in metals, I create an eclectic range of sculpture and contemporary furniture. Highly aesthetic in nature, you will find much of my work curvaceous and tactile, but with a coarseness that is lent from working with bare steel or stainless steel. My style ranges from figurative to abstract and is always in context with its environment. My current collection "˜Elements' focuses on Earth, Air, Water and Fire, and describes the reaction of when those elements meet. Developing the collection I concentrated on the proccess of using repetitive form of material - flat steel bar, to generate concepts and capture the movement of elemental reactions. The forms are designed appropriately for indoor display, but are perfectly suited to larger scale and outside installations for private or public spaces. http://www.philipmelling.co.uk http://www.artquid.com/artist/philipmelling/philip-melling.html htt
