10% of the profit of each print will be donated to the Emmett Till Legacy Foundation Universal Mother - 2019 Universal Mother is a portrait of the iconic Mamie Till. Her 14 year old son Emmett Till was abducted, brutally tortured and murdered after being accused of flirting with a white woman. Mamie Till made the strong and courageous decision to have an open casket of her son’s body which was a significant factor which helped fuel the Civil Rights Movement. “It was almost as if people were looking at their own child there rather than a stranger they didn’t know. It was at that time that I knew Emmett was not just mine, he was a universal child.” -Mamie Till Print Size 60 x 60cm / 23.6inch Paper Size 68 x 68cm / 26.8inch Giclée Print Total Editions 40 x 40cm Print - Limited Edition of 25 60 x 60cm Print - Limited Edition of 50 70 x 70cm Print - Limited Edition of 1 Hahnemühle Photo Rag 308gsm Mould-made, 100% cotton, pH neutral, smooth surface, natural white Hand Numbered and Signed by Variety Brown Accompanied with a Certificate of Authenticity

Variety Brown is a London based artist whose current focus is portraiture. Her subjects are of inspirational and admirable Black Icons, their contributions ranging from Activism, Music, Sport, and Entertainment Industries. These pieces are painted on canvas using black and white acrylic paint with inspiration having been taken from black and white photography as well as to add a classic feel. Pride is taken in the contrast displayed using conflicting colours, highlighting shadows and light. Portraying an accurate and specific expression is also pursued. The end result is intended to display a strong and bold image that draws you in and furthermore sheds insight into the background of the icon.
