About The Artwork

This time of year, under the tall beech trees, the fireflies are swarming and the stars twinkling, it is truly magical! This is an aquatint etching, that is, with the help of ferric Chloride acid I have incised my drawing onto a copper plate, I then add a technique called aquatint to get the different shades, this technique involves a rosin and heat, and is quite tricky to get right. When the copper plate is done, I handprint each and every print from it, apply the ink, and put it through my etching press, a very traditional hands on way of creating prints which also means that us printmakers are allowed to call them original prints. The actual copper plate measures 9.5" x 13" ( 24 cm x 33 cm )and I have printed the image onto a beautiful heavy weight velvety piece of printmaking paperthe piece of paper measures 12.5" x 16.5" (32 cm x 42 cm ) I have signed, titled and numbered the print in a short edition of only 60 prints. Please note you probably will not receive the number in the photo. I ship my prints from my studio in Denmark, with many years experience of packing my prints so they arrive safely. Thanks for looking, just get in touch with questions! Mariann

Almost 20 years a full time printmaker and I am as much in love as the day I pulled my first print! My presses have moved with me, from Borneo to Singapore, from Singapore to Spain, and now on to Denmark, where I have set up my studio and gallery. I am self taught, a book, a way to thick copper plate and a gallon drum of nitric acid, making every mistake you could, and learning, learning as I went along. I started with etchings and added linocut when we moved to Singapore. Here I also taught printmaking at Singapore Tyler Print Institue, picking up and learning from the master printmakers there. I never want to be too "old" to learn, to challenge myself, to do better! My inspiration comes from a variety of sources, I have no single line of work, but prefer to make images as they come into my head, through books, I love to read, through radio, music and a huge part, from my daily dogwalks, that not only provide inspiration from nature but also moments of contemplation that results in many of my prints! All my prints are printed on best quality printmaking papers (favorites are Magnani, Fabriano, and Hahnemuelhe) with Charbonnel etching inks.
