'Borges and I' explores text and subtext in Jorge Luis Borges story 'Borges and I'. The book deals with the metaphorical expression of his experience of going blind in middle age and the tension between Borges the writer and Borges the man (ego and id, in my interpretation - Borges' blindness was precipitated by his refusal to stop writing and reading). The main body of text is black on black paper and the subtext - a bitter and futile monologue hewn within the body of Borges' original text, is blind-embossed, giving a physical dimension to the page, and interrupting and hijacking the prose of Borges the writer.
