About The Artwork
This photograph is produced by assembling a collage of paper and found objects on a copy stand and photographing the composition. Part still life, part collage, I find it interesting to explore the distinction between a photograph and a collage in this digital age of photography. This piece is inspired by the idea of the Platonic element of Air and the intelligences and spirits of that element. I call it "The Airy Gate" because I wanted to make a piece of art that acted as a way for those spirits to manifest in the rational, waking world. Ideally it is a gate through which these spirits flow and speak to the viewer. In all my work I am fascinated by magic, mythology, and the spirit world. I draw heavily from occultism, astrology, tarot, magic, and related themes.
