About The Artwork

The SKY PAINTINGS project has been dealing with the phenomena of the sky for years and tries to capture them using analogue photographic techniques. André Muehling observes cloud phenomena with his camera, accompanies these formations that emerge from nowhere, as it were, due to atmospheric processes and certain light conditions, and watches how they repeatedly reform, change, transform and finally dissolve. The photographic observation of this recurring process, this search for traces of the ephemeral, the fleeting, gives rise to suggestive photographs that are always reminiscent of painting. The photographs lead the viewer‘s gaze to the sky and he can watch paintings emerge from water, air and light. The sky paints and overpaints, whether flatly outlined, monochrome, in delicate, soft gradients or wildly and gesturally, when wind-blown wisps of clouds appear like brushstrokes on an infinitely blue canvas. SKY PAINTINGS SERIES - Nymphenburg Castle, 48°9‘31“N11°30‘25“0, 14/06/21, 18:45 Rotund, diameter 100 cm, Edition of 12 Giclée-Print (Hahnemuehle Photo Rag) behind Acrylic Glass on Alu-Dibond Personally signed and numbered on the reverse by the artist André Muehling works with a specific 4x5 inch lage-format camera exposing his motives on sheet film. This classic analogue approach in combination with fine art printing technique allows awe-inspiring results, rich in detail, acuity and depth. The archival Giclée pigment prints on Hahnemuehle Paper are laminated behind cratch-resistant high gloss acrylic glass and stabilised on a Alu-Dibond backing. The lamination behind acrylic glass gives the image exceptional plasticity, brilliant depth, and contrast, protects it from dust and impurities. Each photo has an aluminium profile frame on the back so it can be mounted on the wall immediately.
