"RR003 - Bus 87 - The Strand" I hope my love of JMW Turner's work shines through this impressionistic photograph of the Strand from Bus 87 during a rainy day in June. The images in this series often use subdued tones - but this vista of The Strand seemed to beg for a more painterly colourful treatment. The ROUTEMASTER RAIN project is ongoing and all images are photographed from the top deck of the classic red London “Routemaster” Buses - mostly through the glass of the front window. Occasionally images show the glass manufacturer mark. Each series image is numbered RRXXX and details the street or landmark name along with the bus/route number. Weather conditions vary from small droplets to torrential rain often creating heavy surrealistic distortion of the scene beyond the window. Occasionally mist on the inside of the bus window adds to the impressionistic effect, as does the smearing created by the windscreen wipers. The series brings together several elements:- * My background in watercolour painting * My fascination with dreams. I enjoy creating impressionistic images where the viewer can fill in the blanks to create their own narrative. * My affinity for water - be it swimming pools, oceans, rivers, lakes or rain. * My love for London - my home for over 20 years. The series documents the street and landmarks of the city. * Finally, it is a celebration of the famous London Buses - the red blood cells that carry life through the city and keep the city moving.

United Kingdom
Originally from Cheshire (UK), I started out painting with watercolour and later studied technical drawing as part of my engineering qualifications. Photography offered the perfect blend of art and science and my fascination began; travelling widely with my engineering work I found urban artistic inspiration in New York, Paris, Tokyo and Toronto. Settling in London over 20 years ago, I now live among neighbourhoods and buildings which support my passion for abstract, architectural and street photography. Influenced by my background, one could say I shoot with the eyes of an impressionistic painter and the mind of an engineer. I take inspiration from everyday objects, surfaces and scenes which are often transformed into the extraordinary, surreal or abstract. I'm drawn to urban oddities, colourful collisions, deep perspective and playful geometry. To capture the most compelling stories I prefer to shoot spontaneously, unbound by genre or subject. My images are often featured on the BBC and VOGUE websites, and have been collected across 4 continents. All images ©2000-2023 Pete Edmunds. All rights reserved.
