About The Artwork

This piece captures the image of a reign in decay, where seduction, domination, and disdain intertwine in a fascinating play of light and shadow. The face of the Red Queen, shaped by the expression of calculated contempt and excessive pride, evokes authority while revealing the scars of a sad and broken childhood. The duality of her existence is laid bare, manifesting the tyranny of her ego as a bitter fruit of internal wounds. The surroundings that envelop the Red Queen unveil a reign where the opulence that once adorned her domain has yielded to the passage of time, leaving behind a trace of decadence. The shadows looming over the throne suggest not only the transience of power but also the inevitable decline that accompanies those who cling too tightly to their crown. This work seeks to delve into the darkest corners of the human psyche, unveiling the vulnerabilities of a shattered childhood. Thus, the Red Queen becomes a metaphor for the human condition and a mirror of our own reality, reminding us that even in the most powerful realms, emotional complexity and the scars of the past persist.

Carlos Henaine was born in 1971 in Puebla, Mexico, and holds a degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the Universidad de las Américas, Puebla. His self-taught training as a designer led him to establish EXPLORARE, a design studio that began its activities in 1997, coinciding with the internet boom. In its early days, the studio focused on multimedia design and web development. From the year 2002 onwards, he decided to expand the studio's activities to meet the demands of visual communication, including corporate identity, editorial design, packaging, and environmental design. In 2008 and 2011, he was honored with the Quórum Award and has won a silver mention, three bronze mentions and a total of ten finalist works in that contest. In 2009, the INBA awarded him an honorary mention in the Fifth National Design Biennial. Between 2007 and 2015, he won seven first places in the a! Diseño Awards. In 2012, he was selected to be part of the first Mexican Design Directory 2012, co-edited by Centro and ProMéxico. In 2014, he was invited to participate as a judge in the a! Diseño Awards. In 2016, he received an honorary mention in the first edition of the Diseña México Award. To date, his work has been published in nine books by HOW and Rockport Publishers, internationally recognized authorities in the field of graphic design. As a specialist in visual communication, he currently explores different paths in the expression of visual arts, using photography as a medium to create art. He portrays human reality through the rawest and most authentic emotions, capturing the interplay of darkness and light in people. As an emerging artist, he has participated in several group exhibitions and presented his first solo exhibition in 2023 at a renowned art gallery in his hometown.
