For many years, the subject of my art has been art itself. In my new work Traces of Pollock, de Kooning and Warhol, I merge the conceptual with the visual, as I explore the works of abstract artists in ways that redefine the originals while adding their own distinct viewpoint. Abstracting Abstraction' is a natural continuation of previous work in which I abstracted the imagery of Van Gogh, Monet, Matisse, Picasso and others. Now, I pose the question of whether abstract work can be abstracted. Can conceptual work be abstracted? Can a vision encompass art, nature and self? The answer is a resounding yes. To abstract existing works of art, I use my own photographic techniques to reconstruct, recontextualize and recompose what I sees into complex, detailed photographs rich with imagery and meaning. My work has been exhibited in museums and galleries nationally and internationally, but this collection will debut on Long Island, NY where I currently live and work My studies in comparative art, spirituality, astronomy and human history color my work and are important threads in the fabric of who I am.Photography has been part of me all my life. It is my way of heightening awareness and overcoming the apathy resulting from the comfort of the usual and ordinary. It sharpens observation, brings vision to a focus, provokes thought and evokes emotion. In parallel journeys, I took roads less traveled and revisited places and saw them again for the first time. Amidst the order and chaos in our world, my eyes see always beauty, and my work is a window to my world. Again...Seeing Art Anew Rumi to PicassoThis work is a meditation on art and its possibilitiesand a chance to look at art Again and see it Anew If you do not recognize this painting as a Picasso, Monet, Van Gogh or Matisse, you are right. Yet, the brushwork, colors and lines are theirs. They have been recomposed to reveal new paintings within. Beyond the confines of the image there exists a miraculous world of brushstrokes, colors, and textures that inspire and intrigue. It is a world waiting to be explored and taken to new limits. Each new idea carries the seeds of the next and the memories of the previous. T.S. Eliot said, We shall not cease from exploration, and the end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we started and know the place for the first time. Picasso dared to interpret the figure into what was considered grotesque, and opened a world of new expressions and beauty.
