About The Artwork

Harrow Hill is a secluded and beautiful spot tucked away on the estate of the 18th Duke of Norfolk, in the English county of Sussex. Before the Duke's ancestors were born, this was a Saxon stronghold, and before that people have lived here, raising cattle and mining flint, all the way back to the Stone Age. But ... do fairies live here too? The picture is inspired by a walk taken by the composer John Ireland. I am a British visual artist, from London. My practise is primarily concerned with ideas relating to place, and place-making, mediated by time, memory and myth. My work is principally photographic, but I also make work with moving image, audio, book making and installation. My working process requires patient research of a site’s history, and repeated exploration of each location, an endeavour indelibly inscribed into the work. I was awarded the degree of Master of Arts in Photography and Critical Theory from the University of Brighton studying under luminaries such as Magnum photographer Mark Power. I graduated with Distinction. My work is collected internationally and exhibited widely, including at the Royal Academy of Arts, Royal Scottish Academy, Museum of London, Towner Gallery, and Somerset House.
