Secret Vodou society in Bénin. The Egungun association is a secret vodoo society which honors spirits of the ancestors. Despite the time and the man curiosity, the Egungun society manadged to remain his strengh and his sacred aspect. She still inspire curiosity, fear and suspicion. These ancestral spirits are believed to be in constant watch of their survivors on Earth. They bless, protect, warn, and punish their Earth relatives, depending on how their relatives neglect or remember them. They protect the community against evil spirits, epidemics, feminine, witch-craft, and evil doers, ensuring their well-being. The ancestral spirits may be invited to the Earth physically, Egungun are the receptacles of these spririts.

After the studies at INSAS (Institut National Supérieur des Arts du Spectacle et Techniques de Diffusion) in Brussels, he worked in the movie industry. However, Jean-Claude Moschetti never gave up on his interest for photography, and from 1995 he works as an independent press photographer. His photographs could be seen in publications such as Le Figaro, Liberation, Le Point, Courrier International, Time Magazine.... Lately Jean-Claude has travelled a lot in Western Africa and want to carry out more personal projects like this series about mask and other secret voodoo societies
