I was born in 1975 in Connecticut, attended college in Boston, and traveled for years in the West, living in Wyoming and Colorado before settling in Los Angeles in 1999. I have lived in New York City since 2005.

Primarily self-taught as an artist, I have attended the School of Visual Arts in New York City and Santa Monica College in California and have worked at the Museum of Modern Art New York, the Museum of Contemporary Art Los Angeles and the 18th Street Arts Center in Santa Monica, CA. Each of these experiences has brought me in contact with a number of young artists and encouraged me to use the camera re-present what I see.

The world can be a loud, over-saturated, over-stimulated place. My intention is to create images that are a respite from this. At the core of my work is the attempt to present the quiet in the landscape, to strip away the inconsequential and parse images down to their raw elements. To do this, I focus on line, space and balance.

In my photographs, it should be evident that I am making a choice of what to reveal and what to leave outside the lens. The idea is that a photographic image is complete and incomplete simultaneously. While standing on its own aesthetically, a photograph is by its very nature a piece of a larger whole. In my images, I attempt to exploit this duality through the use of line to draw one in, through, and out of a work.

To accomplish this, my work is generally devoid of people, while at the same time it cannot help but invoke our presence. We are visible in what is left behind, in what is altered. Our fingerprints are everywhere. The land I explore- while inherently harmonious- is never pristine because that would be a fiction. Like many artists, I seek to simplify this world and re-present it in a new light, distilling familiar places in the hope of prompting a new exploration. If I am successful, an image will linger and continue to reveal itself the longer one looks.
