The photograph captures a captivating interplay of light and form, as the intricate silhouette of a wrought iron door extends its elegant shadow towards the viewer. The door, a testament to craftsmanship and history, stands as a striking focal point against the backdrop of a breathtaking sunset at the seashore. The warm, golden hues of the setting sun infuse the scene with a sense of tranquility and serenity, casting a soft, ethereal glow over the tranquil waters and distant horizon. To the left of the door, a potted plant stands as a symbol of life and vitality, its verdant leaves a vibrant contrast against the cool, blue brick wall. The juxtaposition of the organic and the man-made elements within the composition invites contemplation on the harmonious coexistence of nature and human artistry. The photograph evokes a sense of timeless beauty and quiet contemplation, inviting the viewer to immerse themselves in the interplay of light, shadow, and the natural world.

I have been a photographer for four decades in New York and currently reside in Brooklyn. My body of work is titled Misbegotten Places, which involves creating small dioramas from photographs I have taken. Through careful camera angles and lighting, these dioramas are transformed into lifelike images that can often deceive the viewer, while always conveying a sense of "misbegotten." The lines between reality and fiction are blurred, as these lifelike dioramas, when photographed, often deceive the viewer with their uncanny realism. However, true to the collection's title, "Misbegotten Places," each scene is infused with a subtle element of the unexpected or the out-of-place, challenging the viewer's perception and inviting them to delve deeper into the narratives woven within these meticulously crafted compositions.
