About The Artwork
This painting was inspired by the high wilderness rock outcrops that form Dartmoor in the UK. The stresses and strains that have produced these rocks, or Tors, show in their cracks and shattered strata. I try to depict the emotion of these pressures along with height and position in the surrounding landscape. You are looking up, down from above, and all around within the vicinity of the Tor. It is a remote and lonely place but has a naturalistic beauty - particularly in the dawn bathed in early sunlight. The lettering refers to the OS mapping positioning reference of this particular Tor.
