About The Artwork

As with my steampunk owl piece, this painting was a challenge I set myself. I wanted to create a set of two paintings in the same style and I thought a fox and an owl were a perfect match. It’s amazing how ideas come to us, I wondered how I’d present my fox and one day I thought…monocle. That was it, the initial idea. After researching foxes and their behaviours I decided that I wanted to create a fox with a somewhat mysterious background. Fox hunting with the use of dogs is now banned in UK, but hunting without dogs is still allowed. In Western and Persian folklore the fox is a symbol of cunning and trickery, this reputation is derived from their ability to evade hunters. This is the basis of his personality, I wanted him to look wise and superior to the hunters he’s escaped from, but with a hidden depth to him that makes you want to know more. He’s extremely clever and loves to host wine and cheese parties while regaling his guests with stories of his youth. I named him Xander Oakley Flintwood and I think that name suits him perfectly.

My artistic vision is to inspire a greater appreciation and respect for wildlife, I aim to create art that resonates with animal lovers, and highlights the importance of preserving the natural world for future generations. I use my art to portray the personality and behaviour of animals, and to invite the viewer to reflect on their own feelings towards them. I achieve this by experimenting with different artistic styles and techniques, choosing the most suitable one to communicate a particular message. Ultimately I hope to create a connection between humans and wildlife, while also expanding my own artistic abilities.
