About The Artwork

I have painted this shoreline of trees before but every day is different. I used a lot of paint on this canvas. From across the room, the stabs and swirls of paint merge into something very much more realistic. I like white pines and paint them a lot as they reach above the forest canopy. White pines are almost always silhouetted against the sky. The white pines are the tallest trees in the forest canopy. There are lots of hidden creatures in this painting - almost all were unintentional. Karen Haynes was the chief creature hunter. Inside the sketched box is a gazelle of some sort. As Karen says, "there are lots of options, if one is creative (which we are). The orange tree to the top left of the square I drew is elephant like; orange leaf, bottom centre is kind of dinosaur-like; yellow foliage, with green to the right at left centre is like a bear head; bottom left corner – various yellows is goat like. To the left of my square and your orange tree is kind of like a green salmon swimming upwards. Now I've got even you studying your own work! J In image 13, …not a bobcat in a tree, but a sitting dog. Including the tip of the nose and the point ears. Just happened to open the email again, and there it was, right before my eyes!

An avid canoeist, Phil believes that a fully equipped paradise needs only a quiet back lake, a canoe, art supplies and a fishing rod. Born in the Thousand Island Region of Ontario, Phil has traveled the width and breadth of Canada before settling in southern Ontario. The inspiration for the next painting is right around the corner.

Started painting with the late Mario Airomi in 1967 and never stopped. Started drawing seriously much sooner probably around 1957.
