About The Artwork

"Science is like magic that works." Kurt Vonnegut Viewing "When Earth Was Still Flat" on-line or in a video doesn't do it justice. You gotta see this in person to really appreciate it... and then you won't be able to take your eyes off it. The surface texture features oceans and deserts, mountains and vast lakes and is reminiscent of the topographical "Flat Earth" maps of the ancient world found in the antechambers below the Library of Alexandria in Egypt in 1288. The fact that Early Man and his upright descendants believed the Earth was flat right up until the end of the Dark Ages is one thing. But believing that during the Era of Enlightenment everyone suddenly understood astrophysics might be an oversimplification, don't you think? There are people born every day on this planet that will see no more of the Earth than the horizon in each direction from the house they were born in. That might mean a small town or village, or a hut somewhere, or it might mean in a specific neighborhood in a big city. Is the Earth still flat as far as they're concerned? Probably. My one and only question has always been; If the Earth was flat like this map at one point but now it's round like a globe... how did that happen? And when? Ok, that's two questions. There might be more questions, but let's start with those two. How and when did the Earth get round?

After a 30 year career in advertising and sales leadership I escaped the corporate media world a few years ago and can now focus on creating my own work. In other words, I'm an outsider artist that has decades of ideas pouring out. My intent is primarily to create pieces of art that are highly visual and interesting to enjoy and study... but may often express ideas, ask questions, unearth feelings, debate opinions, or sometimes be provocative. Like many paintings though, they're often just a combination of lines, shapes, colors, textures, and space. That said; I hope my work presents a UNIQUE combination of art elements to you and that you like what you see. Better yet, I hope you believe some of my pieces should be included in your collection. I've traveled the world but have always lived in the Philadelphia area. While I have no formal training as an artist, I've been a photographer and I've been around the art community my whole life. My wife Suzanne works as a Docent for the Barnes Foundation in Philadelphia, and together we've raised three wonderful sons that are all now making their own way in the world. We have a home and our studio in Chester County PA with our Bernese Mountain Dog; Mr Charlie.
