About The Artwork

The initial inspiration for this piece was the mix of vulnerability and strength in the tiger’s gaze. So often we think of a tiger in terms of strength but they are of course endangered. This work was painted for Sketch for Survival 2022 and was one of 100 finalists out of more than 3000 entries. It has been exhibited at Dundas Street Gallery in Edinburgh and Oxo Gallery, Tower Wharf, London and recently sold in auction with all proceeds going towards Sketch for Survival conservation projects.

Rebecca is an artist from the North West of England. Whether painting or drawing, her work has themes that centre around life, its fragility and beauty. Although her work has a strong basis in realism, with subjects often taken from photos (own or with permission) that she finds intriguing on some level, Rebecca often uses intuitive means and techniques when making art. For example- paint spatters, drips and using tools other than brushes to apply paint. These techniques increase her connection to the subject/ image and also allow subconscious processes to take over. Rebecca finds it fascinating how the photographic reality is transformed into something personally significant when translated into paint. Rebecca has many years of experience in painting and drawing. She has been making artwork since she was a little girl, inspired by her Grandad, who, as well as being a coach builder was a talented artist who nurtured her interest. Later on in life, Rebecca trained in Blackburn and then in Kingston Upon Thames, with her artwork being sold both internationally and here in the UK. More recently, Rebecca has been specialising in wildlife art and pet portraiture combining her love of animals and nature with her love of art and giving her work a stronger sense of purpose. She has taken part in exhibitions in London and the North West of England, and began developing her personal work and exhibiting again in 2014, becoming a full-time artist in 2021. She has won local awards for her work and has work in private collections in England, the USA and Turkey.
