Valentine's Day Snow Austin 2004 Painting

Moving to a new location always involves a re-adjustment on my part. And though each move is more for positive reasons than negative, there's almost always been a repercussion to my art, and, literally, how the light around me reveals or obscures my work to my own self. Valentine's Day Snow Austin 2004, oil on heavy gallery wrapped canvas, was created from a photo of mine after a short and unexpected snow right on my wife Sheila's birthday, February 14, in 2004. At the time I'd begun using several daylight bulbs in stands and overhead, a very much new-to-me experiment to feel and paint as if in natural light. When we sold our home and began a process of traveling into the next decade, with a lack of natural light and space, I turned to photography and writing, eventually returning to painting when settled back in Austin. Much of my 1st new paintings involved images I'd captured in Vermont. Several are featured and available here on Saatchi Arts 😊 What moving this time has offered me is - space for new and improved adjustable daylight lighting. What "that" has offered me, unexpectedly, is the chance to see work made in the 2000's, like 2004, in a similar and better light in which I created this large piece. And what I can see now again, is a startlingly pleasing reminder of what I saw and felt back then, especially in the harmonies of colors and textures.
