Down with disease
Three weeks in my bed
Trying to stop these demons that keep
Dancing in my head
Down with disease
And I'm up before the dawn
A thousand barefoot children outside
Dancing on my lawn
Dancing on my lawn, and I keep
Waiting for the time when I can finally say
This has all been wonderful but now I'm on my way
But when I think it's time to leave it all behind
I try to find a way to
But there's nothing I can say to
Make it stop
(Stop, stop, stop, stop)
(Stop, stop, stop, stop)
(Stop, stop, stop, stop)
(Stop, stop, stop)
Down with disease
And the jungles in my mind
They're climbing up my waterfalls and
Swingin' on my vines
So I try to hear the music
But I'm always losing time
'Cause they're stepping on my rhythm and they're
Stealin' all my lines
Stealin' all my lines and I keep
Waiting for the time when I can finally say
This has all been wonderful but now I'm on my way
But when I think it's time to leave it all behind
I try to find a way to
But there's nothing I can say to
Make it stop
(Stop, stop, stop, stop)

Songwriters: Trey Anastasio and Tom Marshall

"Down with Disease" is a 1994 song by American band Phish. It is the second track from their 1994 album Hoist and was released as their fifth promotional single by Elektra Records. The song is a funk rock song written by Phish guitarist and lead vocalist Trey Anastasio and lyricist Tom Marshall. The song's lyrics were based on a bout with infectious mononucleosis suffered by Marshall.

"Down with Disease" was Phish's breakthrough single on American rock radio, reaching #33 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Tracks chart in June 1994. It was first played live December 31, 1993, as a jam without lyrics. "Down with Disease" was released as a single by Elektra on both CD and cassette. The compact disc version of the single was a promotional item issued to radio stations, while the cassette edition was issued to retail. The CD only includes "Down with Disease", while the cassette also contains "NO2", an experimental musique concrète composition that features dental drill sound effects. A different recording of "NO2" appeared on the band's 1986 demo release The White Tape.

A music video was created for the song, directed by Phish bassist Mike Gordon, that showed the members of the band scuba diving through an aquarium. The video was partially shot during the song's debut live performance, at the band's December 31, 1993 New Year's Eve concert at the Worcester Centrum in Worcester, Massachusetts. During the performance, the stage was decorated with aquarium props for the music video shoot. The video appeared a few times on MTV, including an abbreviated version on Beavis and Butt-head.

The "Down with Disease" music video is the only one that has been produced by the band during its 30-year career, apart from a semi-official 1991 fan-made video for the song "Esther".

In concert, "Down With Disease" has spanned from three, to ten, to over twenty minutes, often featuring full band improvisation. The longest standalone rendition of this song was the December 12th 1995 performance, which clocked in at 31 minutes and 20 seconds before segueing into "The Lizards”.

Down with disease Three weeks in my bed Trying to stop these demons that keep Dancing in my head Down with disease And I'm up before the dawn A thousand barefoot children outside Dancing on my lawn Dancing on my lawn, and I keep Waiting for the time when I can finally say This has all been wonderful but now I'm on my way But when I think it's time to leave it all behind I try to find a way to But there's nothing I can say to Make it stop (Stop, stop, stop, stop) (Stop, stop, stop, stop) (Stop, stop, stop, stop) (Stop, stop, stop) Down with disease And the jungles in my mind They're climbing up my waterfalls and Swingin' on my vines So I try to hear the music But I'm always losing time 'Cause they're stepping on my rhythm and they're Stealin' all my lines Stealin' all my lines and I keep Waiting for the time when I can finally say This has all been wonderful but now I'm on my way But when I think it's time to leave it all behind I try to find a way to But there's nothing I can say to Make it stop (Stop, stop, stop, stop) (Stop, stop, stop, stop) (Stop, stop, stop, stop) (Stop, stop, stop) ‘Down With Disease’ by Phish Songwriters: Trey Anastasio and Tom Marshall "Down with Disease" is a 1994 song by American band Phish. Hoist (stylized as (Hoist)) is the fifth studio album by the American rock band Phish, released on March 29, 1994 by Elektra Records. At the time of its release, Hoist was Phish's best selling album to date, peaking at No. 34 on the Billboard 200 albums chart. The album was certified gold by the RIAA on August 19, 1996, and remains the band's best-selling studio release, outsold in their discography only by the platinum-certified A Live One. The album includes "Down with Disease", the band's breakthrough single on American rock radio, reaching the top 40 of Billboardmagazine's Mainstream Rock Tracks chart in June 1994. The band filmed their only official music video for the song, directed by bassist Mike Gordon, which received some airplay on MTV. Phish is an American rock band that formed in Burlington, Vermont, in 1983. The band is known for musical improvisation, extended jams, blending of genres, and a dedicated fan base. The band consists of guitarist Trey Anastasio, bassist Mike Gordon, drummer Jon Fishman, and keyboardist Page McConnell, all of whom perform vocals, with Anastasio being the primary lead vocalist. The band was formed by Anastasio, Gordon, Fishman and guitarist Jeff Holdsworth, who were joined by McConnell in 1985. Holdsworth departed the band in 1986, and the lineup has remained stable since. Phish performed together for 15 years before beginning a two-year hiatus in October 2000. The band regrouped in late 2002, but disbanded again in August 2004. They announced their reunion in October 2008 for a series of three consecutive concerts at Hampton Coliseum in Hampton, Virginiain March 2009, and have since resumed performing regularly. All four members pursued solo careers or performed with side-projects and these projects have continued even after the band has reunited. Phish's music blends elements of a wide variety of genres, including funk, progressive rock, psychedelic rock, folk, country, jazz, blues, bluegrass, and pop. The band was part of a movement of improvisational rock groups, inspired by the Grateful Dead and colloquially known as "jam bands", that gained considerable popularity as touring concert acts in the 1990s. Phish has developed a large and dedicated following by word of mouth, the exchange of live recordings, and selling over 8 million albums and DVDs in the United States. In 2005, Phish formed their own record label, JEMP Records, to release archival CD and DVD sets. The label's first release was Phish: New Year's Eve 1995 – Live at Madison Square Garden, which was released in conjunction with Rhino Records in December 2005. The label subsequently released several other archival live box sets, including band's new albums since its reunion as active band. Source: Wikipedia

I’m (I am?) a self-taught artist, originally from the north suburbs of Chicago (also known as John Hughes' America). Born in 1984, I started painting in 2017 and began to take it somewhat seriously in 2019. I currently reside in rural Montana and live a secluded life with my three dogs - Pebbles (a.k.a. Jaws, Brandy, Fang), Bam Bam (a.k.a. Scrat, Dinki-Di, Trash Panda, Dug), and Mystique (a.k.a. Lady), and five cats - Burglekutt (a.k.a. Ghostmouse Makah), Vohnkar! (a.k.a. Storm Shadow, Grogu), Falkor (a.k.a. Moro, The Mummy's Kryptonite, Wendigo, BFC), Nibbler (a.k.a. Cobblepot), and Meegosh (a.k.a. Lenny). Part of the preface to the 'Complete Works of Emily Dickinson helps sum me up as a person and an artist: "The verses of Emily Dickinson belong emphatically to what Emerson long since called ‘the Poetry of the Portfolio,’ something produced absolutely without the thought of publication, and solely by way of expression of the writer's own mind. Such verse must inevitably forfeit whatever advantage lies in the discipline of public criticism and the enforced conformity to accepted ways. On the other hand, it may often gain something through the habit of freedom and unconventional utterance of daring thoughts. In the case of the present author, there was no choice in the matter; she must write thus, or not at all. A recluse by temperament and habit, literally spending years without settling her foot beyond the doorstep, and many more years during which her walks were strictly limited to her father's grounds, she habitually concealed her mind, like her person, from all but a few friends; and it was with great difficulty that she was persuaded to print during her lifetime, three or four poems. Yet she wrote verses in great abundance; and though brought curiosity indifferent to all conventional rules, had yet a rigorous literary standard of her own, and often altered a word many times to suit an ear which had its own tenacious fastidiousness." -Thomas Wentworth Higginson "Not bad... you say this is your first lesson?" "Yes, but my father was an *art collector*, so…"
