Time Fighter Painting

This is the final piece from my ‘time fighter’ project. Based on a collage which I made that included an image of musician Dave Grohl with arms held high and a rugged landscape. With collage, as with this painting, I love being able to remix the world into new possibilities and play with layers. I was playing with the dominant/ aggressive pose of the figure and how it appears to be in two places simultaneously. The arms act as a frame for another layer but the form appears to be between two places at once like a time traveller. I also looked at the work of painter Georgio de Chirico for ideas for this painting. Like his paintings of ‘mannequin’ forms I deliberately didn’t want to give the face any features. Because it is not a face. It is a layer. Could also be something about a fear of getting older. The pressure of change. Resistance. Determination.
