The Writer Painting

My newest works are very loosely connected to narrative, and are more strongly connected to the exploration of paint. Despite being informed by portraiture on a really technical level initially, the paintings are then a continuous destruction of this process. Using paint at a chaotic and non-sensical level means that the humanity in the work is bullied by the material used to create it. Although fuelled by people/relationships, my work is a promotion of the material rather than the subject matter. The people within the work become submerged in the paint - drowning in a process which is used to both celebrate and immortalize them. "If you're going to title it, you might as well try and say something." -Hirst For years, my work (consciously or subconsciously) has explored human flaw, and this series of works - despite being primarily fuelled by paint - is still a documentation of this. The focus of the works is in the process, however their titles suggest something else.
