About The Artwork

Painting is a process of trial and error. Finding a way to welcome the give and take of painting, while encouraging my perfectionism to take a back seat, takes a lot of practice. It can be a roller coaster sometimes, like when I painted Vernal Equinox. The painting went through three stages of growth—the first was moody, but uneasy; the second was a little too cool, maybe even overly optimistic; and the third stage was just right—I found a balance between the moodiness and optimism. There's a subtle shift of colors from warm to cool as your eye moves from left to right, with a dash of playfulness along the way, as told by the pink marks. For me, this is what the Vernal Equinox feels like. This Equinox is when the light and dark are equally suspended. When our moodiness rests alongside our optimism. When we can see the brighter days of spring and summer ahead, made more rich by our journey through the dark moodiness of the last few months. “The Vernal Equinox” is an original acrylic painting and measures 20”x16” on gallery-wrapped canvas, wired and ready to hang in your home or office–or wherever you need a gentle glimmer of joy!

Would you love some Joy? Well, you've come to the right place. My paintings have been anecdotally proven to bring Joy. Whether you choose paintings abundant with bright, vibrant colors or imbued with a calming, soft gathering of neutrals, your adding my art to your life will bring you Joy. Joy is essential to feeling balanced and restoring, especially in difficult times. I've spent the past four years learning more about the positive impact of joy and playing with how to bring that to my art. Joy brings hope and optimism, for me and for my collectors. I delve deeply into why Joy matters; how it is different from happiness; why we not only need it, but we all **deserve** it. My paintings bring positive energy wherever they are displayed. My paintings have exhibited in solo and group shows in Seattle, Virginia, Maryland, Nashville, North Carolina, and Washington DC, including at the Phillips Collection. My works are held in private collections in Seattle, New York, London, Washington DC, Virginia, California, and around the world. Born in London, England, my parents and I emigrated to the States when I was two. I hold an MFA in Visual Arts at the Vermont College of Fine Arts, an MA from The George Washington University, and a BA from Davidson College. I am married to a retired U.S. Marine, Tom, and we live in Seattle with our beloved Golden Chow, Mory, aka Studio Dog.
