Where were the three Fates? In ancient Greek mythology, they were the goddesses who wove human destiny. The sister deities Clotho, Lachesis and Atropos determined our beginning, our end, and all that happened in between. The thread of life was woven by Clotho, measured by Lachesis, and cut by Atropos. My painting of "The Three Fates" features Annabelle, Zoe, and Lily as the beautiful models for my bovine version of the Fates. The entwining branches symbolize the mythological thread of life that ties us all, man and animal, together.

Nancy has been a painter since childhood. Her first memory at age three is of making a crayon portrait of a pink poodle. For thirty-five years she and her husband raised cattle on their farm in central Virginia, nurturing a herd comprised of many breeds and diverse models for her painting. In her work, she explores the emotional depths of her subjects, bridging the boundary between the human and animal worlds.
