About The Artwork
'The Performer's Apparition' acrylic on canvas is a double portrait of actress and friend Amanda Wass who I spoke to at length because when we met we had both experienced life changing news. I wanted to illustrate the idea of being split in to two people and adjusting to a new life. The facepaint was an allusion to her stage career and I took photos as she smeered it over her skin. I felt it illustrated some of her trasformation and my own tendancy to try and cover anything other people might find uncomfortable or pittiable. I think she looks strong in both images and we both found the experience cathartic.
