About The Artwork
An artist's life seen through the eyes of a pig. This is a large format, auto-biographical painting that developed over a number of years. Each panel represents a significant phase of life and my reactions to it, from birth to the simple introduction of beauty, art and all of the possibilities that world promised, through the chaos and uncertainty of not being able to reasonably manage that life and ultimately the ebbing of expectations, and the realisation that all of the energy and drama will barely leave a mark on the landscape in which I have played that life out. There are a variety of smaller themes such as that which gave the piece it's title, a torn and trampled love letter that seems to be taking on new meaning later in life 'The Night is a Desert that I can not cross without you'.
