This piece developed from my own thoughts regarding the expectations of women. The general message that women need to be one thing or another is simply disproved by the daily life that women lead. It is our nature to do and be multiple things at once, shifting beautifully between our characteristics. We are soft and strong, fierce and empathetic. Rather than trying to put us into one box or another, society must understand the duality of woman is something to be cherished. As we understand this, so will we thrive. The illegible script in this piece is poetry written around the ideas expressed above. Mixed Media on unprimed canvas finished with archival varnish. This piece was created by Madeline K Barry in her studio in Atlanta, Georgia as a part of her 2022 Fall collection, “The Truth About Women”. It ships via Saatchi Art and arrives ready-to-hang.

Atlanta based painter Madeline K Barry has been honing her skills in acrylic abstract portraiture since 2016. Working in mixed media on canvas, she explores the multifaceted nature of women, focusing on the qualities that seem to most contradict each other: Brilliant minds in sexy bodies. Nurturing mothers with thriving careers. Peacemakers that are willing to fight. Her abstract portraits are composed of layers of bright contrasting colors, dark charcoal drawings, gold leaf, and oil pastel. Madeline studied drawing at the Academie Mechelen in Belgium. As a part of the O.M. Art Collective, she expanded her career first through live painting performance at conferences and events before continuing with solo and group exhibitions throughout Belgium, Germany, and later the U.S. Collaborating with artists locally and internationally, Madeline draws her inspiration through uncommon stories from women around the world.
