About The Artwork
The canvas is an architectural section through planet earth. The base of the work is the centre of the planet. 6,000,000 meters of solid mass and liquid metal lie below the surface of our reality: represented by a single thin white line. The line varies from one to five millimeters in width, defining the envelope of all human life on the planet. We are simply unable to live above or below this tiny zone of life. The deepest mines and tallest mountains are less than nine kilometers away from sea level. One dark band, or ten millimeters above our surface is the height at which passenger planes usually fly. 600 000 meters upwards, at the top of the canvas are the soft edges of the atmosphere and the beginnings of space.
