Adriano Gemelli started his art career living and studying at the Dunmoochin artist colony in Victoria, Australia, with Clifton Pugh and Frank Hodginson in the early seventies. In 1998 he was granted a patent on a new holographic technique he developed which resulted in a series of works titled Sea & Water 1996-2002. In his recent works he has confronted the compositional formula of his last show, resulting in the pushing of his own boundaries to redefine the relationship between holographic and mixed media composition and structural arrangement of the canvases. Over the course of his career, he has repeatedly renewed his artistic approach. These creative shifts have allowed the artist to produce an essential body of work, exciting both for its formal ingenuity and firm foundation in the dialogue between the natural and the abstract.

My aim has been to create a visual language that was mine, which allowed a freedom of concepts to be developed with an aesthetic sense readable to the viewer. In a sense this is like walking a tightrope to create something new that hopefully validates my human worth which is not formula driven. The majority of the works have been inspired by the sea and its environs; they have evolved into a series of works dominant in their intimacy with the viewer. Some reflect my states of introspection, sharing my intensity where the sea is a metaphor for further contemplation. Many of the pieces centre around the chameleon effect in water always in change; the end product not representative of water in a physical sense but a universal spirituality for the world that surrounds and inhabits our being.
