About The Artwork
Mixed media on silk (acrylic, gesso, horse hair, embroidery, metal); 64 x 74 cm. Year 2013. The work was triggered by the poem "Noon Walk on the Asylum Lawn" by Anne Sexton. It is also informed by Sylvia Plath's poem "Edge". There is an island in Macedonia known as Snake Island for it is wild and full of snakes; hence I used it as a metaphor... the snakes around and particularly those within us.

The fungi originate from habitats from all over the world, obtained from dry collections or during personal forays in collaboration with bio-scientists.
