About The Artwork

Shimmery silver nestles within stripes of soft dreamy grey offset with white in a work that attempts to escape its support. Drips slip from the upper edge to cascade beyond the confines of the canvas creating shadows along the wall. This work harnesses the things I miss about the UK. Pewter skies blending into silver seas as well as misty fogs that hover in the valleys in the early morning cool. Please note that the height measurement is taken to the longest drip. This work is fitted with D rings and wire for immediate hanging. The sides are painted, therefore, there is no need to frame. On the back you will find my signature, initials, title and year. It is registered on the NRAA (National Registry for Australian artists). The work comes with details of the registration and a Certificate of Authenticity. THE FRINGE COLLECTION My practice is fuelled by a passion for releasing the paint from its support. Although I am often inspired by the simplicity of Minimalist linear paintings and the precision of hard-edged abstraction I cannot help but add some defiance to the mix by allowing the paint to attempt a rebellious bid for independence. Each line is painted separately, dried, and then layered one by one to create these highly unusual works.

Artist Statement “When the paint is dry my work is just beginning”. The thought that paint could be capable of independence from the canvas has been the driving force behind Julee’s art practice. It led to her process of creating paintings on plastic waiting for the paint to dry before she removes it. The unsupported material has an inherent flexibility that allows Julee to investigate her interest in textile, collage, and sculptural techniques. Through cutting, layering, moulding, weaving, and gluing, each creation is the result of many hours of meticulous and detailed work. An artist since childhood, Julee holds a BFA (Sculpture and Painting) from Curtin University, Perth. She is also the author of the book Sculptural Secrets for Mosaic (Schiffer Publishing Ltd, USA). Her works can be found in collections, both public and private, worldwide.
