About The Artwork

This painting was not in the least bit planned, other than the colours. When it was done, I was a bit confused at the outcome, but there were too many symbols to ignore. I focused on the sword that I see and found this “As an alchemical symbol the sword is a symbol of purification. Here we experience the metaphorical sword cleanly piercing the spiritual soul of man. This symbolic action sacrifices physical bondage to release a path to ethereal (enlightened) freedom.""" The swords of the Congo tribe in Central Africa are deeply symbolic of transition. Specifically, we see the quillons (cross guard on the hilt) of swords were designed so that one side turns heavenward, the other side turns earthwards. This is said to be symbolic of the powerful connection between sky and earth, and further solidifying the symbolism of life and death”. The other very prominent symbol to me was the number 10, even when the painting was rotated. Also a smaller 10 on the close up image. Number ten symbolizes the completion of a cycle. It is the number of heaven and the world and universal creation. Throughout history, the number 10 has been very significant, more info can be found here http://mysticalnumbers.com/number-10/ Then there is the story of the Shona Stone, which this painting resembles on one of the rotations. . A shona stone is a carving done by the shona people on a specific type of rock that one must travel to find. it contains the spirit of the artist and a loved one or a moment in time. It can be simple or very complex.

I am a Canadian Artist born in 1957 in Montreal and moved to Toronto in 1981 where I pursued a career in business while harboring a secret passion to paint. In 2013 I visited St. Paul de Vence (France), and upon my return I spontaneously picked up a paintbrush for the first time and fell in love with the serenity that painting brought to me. In 2016 after a lifetime in the corporate world, I left it all behind to pursue a full time career of passion and love, with new challenges, life lessons and spiritual growth. In 2018 I relocated to Spain, where I currently live. I have chosen to share my journey through my art. I am an intuitive self-taught painter. My life experiences, music and colors are my sources of inspiration, and my paintings are a journey for both myself and the viewer. I identify myself as painting from the inside out. I paint with music and music paints through me, orchestrating a symphony of colors, movements, energies, and vibrations. When I paint, I am drawn to select a palette of colours and I paint in a trance-like state and am not aware of the passage of time or what realm I travel to, not knowing what I will create, or for whom. I am often drawn to paint with many layers (each layer being part of the story) and often with bold texture, I paint with total abandon. I paint mostly with acrylics and love to add some gold here and there. My abstract works encourage individual interpretation and resonance with the observer.
