About The Artwork
I'm a big fan of Frida Kahlo's Self Portrait Surrealism work through the years. Just decided that maybe to work on self portrait finally as it's been a while since the last. Incidentally, in the middle of working on this painting. My balcony went on fire. Then a moved happen, it was finally completed in spring of 2023. I feel like there is always higher forces around us, whether through nature or cultural blue print that watches and guides us on a non obvious day to day level. That it is always up to us to accept the obstacles and fragility of our heart together in balance. However difficult that can be. However unaccepting or discerning others can have towards this balance. Yet that is where real growth happens, you have to protect and allow it to be exposed all at once. I think within that you can find courage and purpose again.

I'm an Asian American Artist. The women in my family have been a pillar for resilience and positivity through the years in my life. I think, their stories, helped pushed boundaries in asian society at the time. It also shaped some of the perspectives I have in my later life, becoming a mother, raising a daughter, finding meaning in the art that I make. Now it is even more imperative to evolve this background into the current art energy. The work comes from harmonizing eastern and western cultural references parallel with nature, life and muses. The style of repetitive pattern comes from a meditative intention that seems to consistently show up. I'm not sure how to communicate in words "the why" behind that. Though it is silent connection that leads to awareness and synchronicities in my day to day life.
