About The Artwork

This is from my series entitled Tapestries, or an intricate or complex combination of things or sequence of events. I build up many layers of paint and add and subtract with different methods so that different layers can be subtly revealed... My inspiration for this series comes from my desire to experiment with the juxtaposition of shapes, contrasts, and rhythms that make up the layers of life.My desire is to invite the viewer into my paintings so they can explore a rhythm, shape, color, or mark that they can personally connect with.

It all started when I was five years old and my Dad picked me up to view the nest in our young tree. There in living color were a robin’s eggs…..a luscious shade of cyan blue. That is when I fell in love with colors. The simple definition of color: "the quality of an object or substance with respect to light reflected by the object”. My subject matter is the power of color. Color is fundamental to our experience of the world around us. I enjoy watching paint move on its own and take on its own energy. My work attempts to allow the paint to do just that by initially being poured or splashed, or swiped with a brush. The dance is created by using experimental methods of application that demand spontaneity in gesture and are then refined or edited by not only my knowledge of technique and color, but with my personal energy. I invite you, the viewer, to enter my world and experience your personal interpretations of what is on the canvas.
