About The Artwork
Matisse's reclining female nudes inspired me to create a minimalist figure. Going beyond the outlining of the nude, I created a fullness of form and then placed her in a floating setting with geometric shapes to add a cubistic quality. This is a contradiction of space and volume which I believe adds a contemporary twist of this subject. Using acrylics, I applied numerous layers of words and shapes for the under painting. I chose silver and gold iridescent colors for the background.
