About The Artwork
A blond woman, apparently wearing a nightgown, seems to be fleeing; but from what is she fleeing? Why is she on the street at night? Is she a somnabulist or is it the tall, schematic figure of a bird, with spread wings, that frightens her? The title of the painting makes it clear. It is a dreamphase, which is called Rapid Eyes Movement. During this phase our dreams are especially intense.
