Our emotional lives seem of paramount importance, though seen as a condition of the human species; our experiences are fairly banal and straightforward. My paintings explore the rich, emotional tedium of intimate domestic life. The imagery is stripped down to the essential, using acrylic with decisive "˜one pass' brushwork, in an attempt to psychologically as well as visually include only the minimum of information. The imagery has a psychosexual twist with abstract figures inhabiting both interior and landscape spaces. The bright, vibrating colors suck the viewer in, initially promising to be a simple pleasurable, experience. Ambiguity and in some cases ominous imagery requires the viewer to look beyond the cheerful palette to decipher obscure meaning.
