About The Artwork

2024. Oil on linen, 45.5 x 33.4 cm. 17.91 x 13.14 inches. Korea. Until now, I have been working on topics such as society, customs, large nature, and discourse rather than personal topics. But recently, I discovered that those discourses ultimately start from the most personal things. This work is my first attempt to list the pieces of my extremely personal life that surround me. So it is the most monumental work. Most of my paintings capture moments of existence confronting external forces that seek to erase the object's existence. Therefore, it is imprinted as a chaotic moment without a complete shape.

Kim Ji-hun (b.1990) graduated from Sejong University's College of Fine Arts with a bachelor's and master's degree and currently lives and works in Seoul. He preserves unfamiliar narrative moments by subjecting images collected through various methods to a process of recombination based on the sublime aesthetics. From his early works, he has focused on nature and the wilderness, expressing a desire for survival instincts through extreme situations where human vulnerability is palpable within the landscape. Through this, he explores methods for survival in an era where personal and abstract sensations of anxiety and disaster are intertwined. He also describes his painting work as the formation of deconstruction. He skillfully expresses tenebrism and tactile methodology to create works that are conceptually and superficially beautiful. He has won several awards, including the 2014 Gyeomjae Jeongseon Art Award, and has exhibited his work in group exhibitions throughout Seoul.
