An oil painting inspired by modern music, rhythmic beats and vibrant energy. The image has an edge of brutalism and a flash of the magical. At times the process has kind of modern day shamanic practice to its evolution, I hope being reminiscent of early Pollock and Allan Davie in its vibe. Although in this case it is the magic of concrete, steel, plastic and stone evoked in oil paint. The painting's surface is rough and rock like furthering the brutalist vibe. That fired my passion for the history of art, particularly the form, technique and process of Modernism, the free creativity of Abstract Expressionism, and the structure of late 20th century graphic design. Like all students of the 90s, I also indulged my passion for music - for drum and bass, hip hop and techno – and the rhythm, speed and structure of these forms of music became a fuel for my work in the studio. Since that time, I have worked hard to develop a kind of calligraphy on canvas that is unique to my experience of living and painting".
