About The Artwork

Acrylic on Canvas Earlier this year, Mr. Harper comissioned me to paint another official portrait that he could add to his massive gallery of paintings featuring his own face. This image was painted as he sat on his balcony in what is left of his home province. His pet beaver, who almost never knows what's going on or where he's being carried off to, sat uncomfortably in his arms. In keeping with his habitual way of connecting with his democratic citizens, he kept his lips sealed in a smirk the entire time. I very much appreciated the uncanny stiffness of 'his' hair as it was extremely easy to paint, remaining invariably unaffected by the wind that day. JD

Shipping & Returns

Delivery Time:Typically 5-7 business days for domestic shipments, 10-14 business days for international shipments.

The images I create are dreamlike, childlike, and designed to present the mystery and importance of ordinary objects in every day moments. This is my way of expressing the tenderness and awe I feel when confronted with the rawness of being in the here and now and my experience with the beauty, warmth, difficulty and ugliness of the world. My favourite mediums are physical and immediate. I enjoy working with graphite, ink, acrylic, oil, watercolour and spray paint, fabric scraps and markers. Drawing is a very important part of my process and my finished works reflect my love of flowing lines and bold, flat shapes. I am influenced by the world in all its colour, texture, form, elements, shapes and good deeds; in all its complexity, tragedy, oppression, and hypocrisy; and by the work of Gao Xingjian, Marlene Dumas, Luc Tuymans, and Matisse.
