My subjects are mainly single figures and faces that live and act in a space that is suggested rather than described. They reflect my interest for the expressive, formal and narrative possibilities connected to the pictorial representation of the human face and the human figure in motion. My reference images are drawn from my everyday life experience and from the reworking of personal memories. In my picture archive there are photographs of family members in intimate situations but also photographs of strangers taken in public spaces and sketches from memory and from life. Through painting I want to create a new relationship with this images and between these images to eventually transform them into something different that holds a sense of revelation to me. I believe that the meaning of a painting can't be described with words because it lies in the relationship between the narrative and the formal elements. Personally I try to comunicate with the viewer on an emotional level through a narrative that is simple but open to different interpretations and through a use of paint that conveys a sense of movement, makes the pictorial process partly manifest, and conveys a sense of transition. I often work with techniques like watercolor and monotype because they are unforgiving, they tend to exalt spontaneity and require speed of execution. For this reason in the last few years I have worked mainly on paper.
