About The Artwork
'Le miroir aux oiseaux' is the name given to that little fishermen's district in Martigues, a town in the South of France. The sun rays on this calm sea inlet provide a mirror effect in which the sky, houses and birdcages are reflecting. Many famous painters such as Delacroix, Corot, Loubon, Ziem ou Dufy have been fascinated by the place and through their paintings have given it a worldwide fame. This painting was started on location and compled in the artist's studio. This oil painting got the first prize in the International Painting Biennale of Fos sur mer in 1997 and was used to make the poster of the next edition in 1999 in which the artist was guest of honor. He kept it in his home for several years and has now decided to sell it. It is sold with a thin discreet frame(see additional photo), ready to hang and sold with a certificate of authenticity.
